The Position
Supervised by the Head of Research, the Sector Analyst is primarily responsible for assisting with evaluating potential investments and handling client requests. The select candidate will analyse the fundamentals of companies, closely monitor data for developments, and alert the portfolio management team about potential opportunities or risks. The preferred candidate will be highly knowledgeable of the securities industry, have a strong understanding of financial statement analysis, and work well independently as well as part of a team.
Principal Responsibilities
· Analyze industry trends and company financials
· Perform quantitative analysis
· Monitor and maintain financial models and industry databases ensuring correct and up-to-date information for Portfolio Managers
· Review business publications, annual reports, financial filings and other sources to gather/synthesize/interpret data on monitored companies
· Participate in conferences, phone calls and meetings with company management. Comment on the financial results of the companies and news announcements
· Perform in-depth company valuation (DCF, statistical modelling/forecasting, comparative multiples)
· Prepare, review, and present fair value recommendations
· Collaborating with a variety of people throughout the firm
Key Competencies & Qualifications
· University degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field
· 5-10 years of relevant industry experience including fair value analysis and/or company and security analysis
· Good knowledge of appropriate legislation
· Knowledge of financial markets
· Understanding of financial statement analysis
· Financial modelling skills, including the understanding of DCF analysis, comparative multiples, and statistical modelling & forecasting.
· Excellent PC skills; advanced knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint
· Experienced user of market information tools, e.g. Bloomberg
· Strong analytical, research and implementation skills
· High attention to detail, the ability work
